Dear Yves,

Just a quick note to welcome you to N. de T. (= Nota de Traductores, el lugar donde los traductores dicen) and to thank you for joining our forum which was created to... talk about translation.

I read that you speak more than two languages. Smile Although English is, in principle, the lingua franca for these exchanges, feel free to use other languages to communicate with us. (This also applies to all my colleagues. Please, do not worry if your English is not that good, we are here to communicate!).

I am really excited to have you here, Yves, and have a couple of questions for you!

WELCOME to N. de T.!

Make yourself at home!

Smile Au

Welcome, Monsieur Ives!
I didn't want to be the very first in doing so, but I'm going out for vacations a few weeks and I'm afraid that by the time I'll be back you've already gone from this forum.

Maybe you don't remember me, but I do remember your interesting lectures at the 1st ATIMAC International Simposium (Monterrey).
I'm afraid I'm still a Wordfast basic user...but I keep on learning.

It's a shame I'll be missing your stay here in the forum; however, I'm sure I'll take advantage of your contributions once back "in action".

I'm really glad Aurora invited you to "notre refuge".
Au revoir,

Alicia

Merci

Chademu
Muchissimos gracias, Aurora!

There are already so many people writing.  I'll do my best to answer, but I may forget some posts, so feel free to write me direct if you feel left out.

The OpenOffice question: there are no plans for the strictly Ms-Word based ("classic") Wordfast to be ported to OO. But I have a project, which is to produce a stand-alone translation editor in Java, for all platforms, by year's end. It will use Wordfast TMs and glossaries as they are now, and will be abale to process DOC and DOCX files, plus a variety of other formats.

Abrazos a todos y todas!

Yves,
It´s a pleasure to have you here and I eagerly await anything you have to say concernng translation and cat tools. I, myself, am pretty clumsy with cat tools. However, this semester I have a subject, Applying Computer Science to Translation ( Informática aplicada a la traducción), and we will have four weeks dedicated to Trados. Now, my question is: With these four weeks studying Trados (4 hours a week), will that help us to understand and even work with other CAT tools such as MetaTexis, Wordfast, Dejavu or any other for that matter?
John
Wow! This is great.

I am sure we will all learn a lot from you, Yves.

It's nice to have you here. Have a great time in N. de T.

Soyez le bienvenu, Yves !

Welcome to our corner of the Web Smile

I've been a Worfast user for 3+ years now, and I have to say I'm pretty happy with it.  I also use Trados at my place of employment (Wordfast is on my home PC, for my freelance work), so I have had the chance to compare...

Merci beaucoup for offering your assistance as a guest in this forum!
