No dia de S. Martinho: lume, castanhas e vinho.

A chuva no S. João tira a uva e não dá pão.

Em Março, esperam-se as rocas e sacham-se as hortas.

Em casa de ferreiro, espeto de pau.

Gato escaldado de água fria tem medo.

Grão a grão enche a galinha o papo.

Em casa onde não há pão, todos ralham e ninguém tem razão.

Casa roubada trancas à porta.

Hi Ana,
thanks for sharing these bits of Portuguese culture Smile.
In the Italian forum, I shared some of that language and I translated them into Spanish.
I'd really appreciate that you translate these lines into English (sometime, in your spare time, of course) to get a more accurate idea of what they mean, therefore, realizing how sayings reflect a closer point of view of life regardless the culture.
