London, UK (Guardian): The RCM wants to ensure that midwives are able to work in partnership with police, local service providers such as refuges and counselling facilities, and other voluntary agencies so that women who disclose abuse during pregnancy can be provided with information about where to get help, along with referral to appropriate agencies if needed. They also want to ensure that female interpreters are available for women who don't speak English and that professional interpreters, rather than family members, are used to translate when a pregnant woman sees her midwife.
