Full Version: ADACH Launches Largest Ambitious Cultural Initiative In Arab World

Dubai, UAE - October 14, 2007:  In an another yet qualitative step to in its pursuit to establish itself as a world cultural hub, Abu Dhabi launched today the largest ever cultural initiative in the Arab World for translation from major world living languages into the Arabic language.

Announcing the project called kilma (Word in Arabia), ADACH Director General Mohammed Khalaf Al Mazrourie, said the cultural initiative was launched as per directives by General Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces, to revive translation of various sciences and knowledge into Arabic in order to fill the gap in the Arabic library and catch up with the fast-moving publishing movement in the west.

According to him, the initiative would also seek to maintain a high profile of the Arab culture in the western cultural theatre.

The initiative was announced as part of ADACH's participation in the international Frankfurt Book Fair during October 10-14, 2007 which drew around 7300 publishers from 110 countries around the world.

Al Mazrouie told a number of prominent Arab and foreign publishers that ''The valuable, non-profit cultural project is part of a comprehensive strategy being carried out by ADACH to promote the local cultural scene especially through supporting the Abu Dhabi international book fair as a pivotal chain to strengthen relationships between the Arab and international publishing industry with the intent of making the UAE capital,Abu Dhabi, an international meeting place for translation and publishing movement.
